About Us

Welcome to Duckworth Real Estate

Duckworth Real Estate was officially opened in 1999 to meet the growing need for professional real estate representation on Nova Scotia's South Shore. We specialize in oceanfront and oceanview homes and vacant land for a wide range of clients. Our client base is approximately 50% Canadian and 50% international including the United States, England, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong.

The offices of Duckworth Real Estate are located in a restored English Barn (circa 1750) in the old seaside village of Kingsburg, once home to both Acadian and German farmers and fishers. The barn is a work in progress and an interesting piece of old Lunenburg architecture.

The village of Kingsburg is situated at the end of the Kingsburg Peninsula, an amphitheatre of headlands, beautiful long open beaches, rolling glacial drumlins and backshore freshwater lakes. We are less than 20 minutes from Old Town Lunenburg, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and just off Route 332, the Lighthouse Route.

The professional staff consists of John Duckworth and Anne Fouillard. Both are members of the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA), a membership organization of 65,000 realtors Canada wide: http://www.crea.ca which owns the MLS trademark, has proprietary ownership of the REALTOR trademark, and operates the Multiple Listing Service http://www.mls.ca. We are also members of the Nova Scotia Association of Realtors (NSAR) http://www.nsar.ns.ca/public/aboutnsar/index.htm which serves the real estate industry in this province.

Although Duckworth Real Estate usually has approximately twenty 20 properties listed for sale, most of its work comes about as a result of representing buyers. When buyers contact us, we find out as much as we can about the kind of property they have in mind and then we get to work researching the market to find properties that come as close as possible to meeting our buyer client's specifications. If possible, we prefer to drive around with our buyer clients so we can get a better understanding of what appeals to them and where they would prefer to be located. This results in our clients gaining a thorough understanding of the area, the personalities of the towns and the prices of properties. After our research, we send the information concerning suitable properties to our buyer clients and work to narrow down the choices. We do the research. We prepare the offers. We look after the interests of our buyer clients. In the role of buyer's broker, in the event of a sale, we are paid by the listing broker, so our services do not cost our clients anything.

Our Role as a Brokerage

Since many of our buyers are interested in renting out their newly acquired properties for short terms, we offer a vacation rental referral service for our real estate clientele.
